The Living Aquarium

At least I think that’s what it’s called.  My cousin’s family came in from Colorado for their brother’s wedding (does that make any sense?) and so to give all of our kids (8 all together) a place to kill some time and energy we took them to this really awesome indoor aquarium.  If you are in Salt Lake and have kids and need some time to kill, this is definitely a place to take them.  My dad and I took Kara when she was probably 2 and she had a blast back then.  This year they added a penguin tank, and it’s much better than at the zoo because you are eye level with their water and can watch them swim.  Super cool.  My girls had a blast, and Sophie discovered a new love: penguins.  She could not get enough of them and wanted to touch them and kiss them and laughed at them and stared at them for the longest time!  It was a hoot, and if I can ever get the video downloaded from my mom’s camera I will upload it.  Anyway, here are some pics from the aquarium:

They have a pool with rays just swimming around and the kids (and kids at heart) can just stand right there and put their hands in and touch the rays and watch them swim around.  It’s really neat.

They also have a Touch-and-Learn station where you can touch starfish and urchins and learn about other kinds of underwater animals.  Kara really enjoyed looking through the magnifying glass at the crabs.

Don’t think that this is Sophie upset.  This was her reaction to seeing the penguins for the first time.  She was like this for the next 10 minutes!

Yes!  Almost as tall as the Rockhopper penguin to the left!  Not quite the other one though.  But she is standing on her own!!!

By the time we were ready to leave Sophie was exhausted and just wanted to sleep.

Kara was NOT happy to leave.  I guess we’ll have to bring her back.

That's one of the locations we hit last year while we were visiting. The kids loved it! Maybe we'll have to go together sometime.
